VERO BEACH — Guests attended a Starting Line Preview Party at the Caribbean Court Boutique Hotel to get revved up for Vero’s first European Style Road Rally – the Vero Road Rally Magnifique, with the appropriate acronym, VRRM. The Rally, chaired by Karl Steene, will be held on Saturday, March 27, and is a benefit for the Sun Up Center for the Developmentally Disabled.
Honorary chairs Kathie and John Schumann were on hand for the event and had brought a couple of sports cars from their extensive collection, a 2009 Alfa Romero and a Ferrari 430 Scuderia, for guests to gaze at in envy. Racing legends Brian Redman, David Hobbs and John Osteen also came to lend their support; Redman’s son James and daughter-in-law Dawn are the Honorary Rally Masters.
The family-friendly road rally is not about speed; you have an equal chance at winning whether your car is a Ford Focus or a Ferrari. Teams are generally made up of just a driver and navigator, but additional passengers are allowed. Points are scored at various checkpoints along a planned route which will not be revealed to contestants until the start of the rally, which begins at the Sun Up Center.
VRRM culminates at the Westside home of Kathi and John Schumann where guests may view their full collection of rare, exotic and antique sports cars, watch a professional driver race on the Schumann’s mini Sebring course, and dine on a buffet of hors d’oeuvres.
The Rally will benefit the Sun Up Center, whose mission is to provide programs, services and residential opportunities to developmentally disabled individuals.
Only 100 vehicles will be allowed to participate in the rally, so get your motors running and register soon – you won’t want to be left in the dust. {igallery 141}
