Eleanor Grace Peterson Johnson, 92, Vero Beach

Eleanor Grace Peterson Johnson, 92, of Vero Beach, died Jan. 5, 2010 at Atlantic Healthcare Center in Vero Beach.

Mrs. Johnson was born Feb. 9, 1917 in Boston and moved to Vero Beach five years ago from Plymouth, Mass.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Christ Church in Plymouth.

Survivors include her sons James A. Peterson of Vero Beach and John W. Peterson of Plymouth; brother William Reid of New Hampshire; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter Sissy.

At the request of the family there will be no services.

Out-of-town arrangements are under the direction of Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home in Sandwich, Mass.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. Family, friends, marines honor ‘protector, hometown hero’

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Frank Strahorn was already considered a hero by his family, friends and marine brothers and sisters because of his military service around the world. Then, on June 19, the 34-year-old became a "hometown hero" after he was fatally shot while helping others escape a gunman carrying an AK-47 assault rifle at a Sebastian pizzeria.
