Elmer T. Weisner, 74, Sebastian

Elmer T. Weisner, 74, died Jan. 1, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Akron, Ohio, and lived in Fort Pierce since 2005, coming from Sebastian. He was a long-distance and construction truck driver and a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Weisner; sons, Mark, Kurt, Scott and Wayne Weisner, all of Akron; brothers, Bill Weisner of Apple Valley, Calif., and Bob Weisner of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; sister, Margaret Dycus of Akron; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association , 237 E. Marks St., Orlando, FL 32803.

No services are planned.

Man shot after charging at deputy with small sword

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old man who was shot by a deputy after charging at the officer with a small sword, was hospitalized late Friday, officials said. The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The deputy who fired the shot was not injured. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave, which is protocol for police-involved shootings. Vero Beach Police Chief David Currey said during a Thursday afternoon news conference that the victims were "recruited and threatened." "We won't tolerate it," Currey said. Undercover police audio and video revealed more than 140 sex acts were performed by nine different women employees at one of the Vero parlors, East Spa, between November 2018 and January, reports show.
