VERO BEACH — Chicks with Checks, a social and philanthropic organization, has launched a local chapter in Vero Beach. Donna Vernon, chapter director, has been hosting informational meetings for potential members as a way for women to stretch their giving dollars and support local charities.
Women in Vero Beach who would like to connect with other women to do good and have fun are invited to join the group at The Greenhouse Cafe every other Tuesday morning. The next Chicks in the Garden meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 1 at 9:30 a.m.
At the Nov. 17 gathering, new members came on board and the leadership team was selected. Pamela Bennett of Senegence International will be the events coordinator, responsible for securing and negotiating arrangements with the venues, getting refreshments donated and helping with event marketing.
Kadi Kay, on the management team for Isles of Vero Beach; is the membership coordinator, creating, coordinating and leading membership efforts.
Darlene Forage, executive director for Plumbago Voluteer Services is the beneficiary coordinator and Deby Winter of Carpet and Tile Warehouse and Green Team Cleaning will assist where needed.
The first beneficiary will be Growing Healthy Kids, a garden-based project to educate kids and their families about food and health literacy, founded by Nancy Heinrich. Nancy will receive donations at the group’s first Party with a Purpose in January
