Community Foundation donors gather at annual report reception

The stunning John’s Island home of Wheatie and Bob Gibb was the setting November 19 for an inaugural Indian River Community Foundation annual report reception for Founders and Fund Holders, hosted by the Foundation’s board of directors.

Board Chairman Rick McDermott reported to the more than 50 donors in attendance that 19 donor advised funds have been established, totaling nearly $2.5 million in assets.  Since the Foundation’s commencement in April 2008, more than $550,000 has been granted from those donor advised funds to nonprofit organizations in Indian River County and elsewhere.

The original 52 founders committed $25,000 over five years to fund the Indian River Community Foundation’s operating expenses.  Board and staff work with donors to help connect them with causes they care about and then support those programs through their donor advised funds.

The mission of the Indian River Community Foundation, one of more than 700 community foundations throughout the country, is to build a stronger community through donor-driven philanthropy. {igallery 98}
