VERO BEACH — Walkers appeared energized by the brisk morning chill and bright blue sky as they warmed up for Saturday morning’s Walk to Remember to benefit the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association. It was hard to determine the exact number of participants as they mingled about under the moss draped oak trees before taking off for the three-mile loop around Riverside Park, but organizers estimated the number at approximately 800 walkers. The walk was chaired this year by Sandi Larson and the presenting sponsor was the George E. Warren Corporation.
Teams and individuals were still turning in checks at the event, which would be added to Friday’s already collected total of more than $40,000. For the second year in a row, the top three teams were Omni Financial, under team captain Tatum Bacchi; Team Russell, under team captain Barbara Russell; and Pointe West Walkers, co-captained by Maureen Hill and Rosalie Perry.
Families, caregivers and friends walked to honor loved ones and to support the organization’s programs and services, now being offered out of their new location in the former Doctor’s Clinic building. The new space features an Activity Center and Resource Lending Library, and there are plans for an expanded exercise program, additional classes and expanded Project Lifesaver services. {igallery 91}
