Tennis pros battle it out at Masters of the King of the Hill

VERO BEACH — Enjoy a fun family night out at the Masters of the King of the Hill Tournament, a tennis doubles exhibition featuring the best tennis professionals on the Treasure Coast in the Open and Senior Divisions (listed below). This event is a fundraiser for the Youth Guidance Mentoring & Activities Program, which helps provide recreational, cultural and educational activities, as well as mentors, to nearly 700 at-risk children from single parent homes in Indian River County each year.  The Masters of the King of the Hill Pro Tennis Exhibitions will take place on Friday, November 13 and Friday, November 20 at The Boulevard. All proceeds will benefit the children of Youth Guidance of Indian River

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
