Saturday in the Park with Authors & Artists

VERO BEACH —  Saturday in the Park with Authors & Artists is a new Main Street Vero Beach and Treasure Coast Writers Guild event. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month authors and artists will set up exhibits on the lawn of the Heritage Center in Downtown Vero Beach.

Exhibiting artists joining this premier show include Highwaymen Al Black and Jimmy Stovall, painters Vickie Marsango, Sue Johnson, Sally Browning Pearson, Ned Noland, Lynn Barletta, Dennis Boyles, Jordan & Betty Hall, Jensen Beach Art Association president Ron Perkins and the artists from the Artist Guild Gallery. Mixed media and sculptors include Sara Jo Karns, Joseph & Debbie Perdue, Eileen Farrell along with photographer Alison Cunningham, and the Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art.

Master Chinese Brush artist, Ed DeDecker will exhibit 24 pieces. Chinese Brush Painting started around 4000 B.C. and has developed continuously over a period of more than six thousand years, reflecting the changes of time and social conditions. The Chinese brush, though similar to the brush used for watercolor painting in the West, has a finer tip suitable for dealing with a wide range of subjects and for producing the variations in line required by different styles.

The “Mad Potter’s” tent will feature handmade ceramic artwork and Red’s Workshop will feature stained glass and hand painted terra cotta pots.

First grade teacher Karen Whelan and her students will showcase and sell greeting card packets, created by her class as a fundraiser for their annual trip to Green Meadows Farm in February. The trip to learn about farm animals and life cycles is costly, but valuable for these Title I school children. All sales of greeting card packets decorated by the children will help offset the cost of their trip.

Several of the twenty-five plus exhibiting artists will hold live demonstrations of their unique painting techniques, and Main Street Vero Beach will provide early morning visitors free coffee with the purchase of two donuts.
