Golfers tee off to support Samaritan Center

The Fourth Annual Bernard and Betty Egan Memorial Golf Classic was held Saturday at the Bent Pine Golf Club.  More than $25,000 was raised by the tournament to support the general operating fund of the Samaritan Center for Homeless Families.  The event was established in honor of the Egans, who were instrumental in working with Catholic Charities, local churches and individuals to create the first transitional housing facility in Indian River County.

Patrick Grall and Corbin Griffeth chaired the tournament, which was sponsored by DNE World Fruit Sales.  Other top sponsors included George E. Warren Corporation and Merrill Lynch – Tom Nelson.

With Indian River County’s 15% unemployment, the need for transitional housing has become even more critical and the waiting list is growing.  The Samaritan Center provides shelter and support, including employment, counseling, financial management, job training, transportation, parenting classes and case management services for homeless families of Indian River County. {igallery 61}
