Sheriff’s Office seeks public’s help to find truck that hit bicyclist

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in tracking down a pickup truck that hit a bicyclist Thursday evening in the area of 4th Street and 9th Drive south of the City of Vero Beach.On Thursday at 7:40 p.m. an unknown color pickup truck struck a bicyclist that was traveling westbound on 4th Street. The crash occurred at the intersection of 4th Street and 9th Drive. According to the witness after the suspect vehicle struck the bicyclist it fled westbound on 4th Street and has not been located.

The bicyclist was trauma alerted per paramedics on scene and was flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. His condition is currently not known.

The witness stated the vehicle is possibly dark in color and was described as a utility type, so it possibly has a bed topper shell. The suspect vehicle has an unknown amount of right front end damage and is missing the right front headlight assembly. Evidence obtained from the scene included the headlight assembly used by Dodge on the following pick up trucks: 2002 – 2005 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 Medium Duty, and 3500 Heavy Duty models that also include dually models.
