Motorcyclist dead after colliding with work truck on U.S. 1 in Sebastian

SEBASTIAN — A 47-year-old Stuart man was killed Sunday after his motorcycle slammed into the back of a work truck partially parked in the southbound outside lane along U.S. 1. The truck's emergency lights were activated and flashing before the crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol. "The driver of (the motorcycle) was weaving in and out of traffic and failed to observe (the truck) partially blocking the outside lane," troopers said in a statement. "As a result, the front of (the motorcycle) collided with the rear of (the truck)." The driver of the work truck, a 32-year-old West Palm Beach man, was not hurt. Boater discovers man’s body in Sebastian; deputies investigating

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The body of a man who was involved in a police chase where he jumped into the Indian River Lagoon to evade officers, was discovered floating in the water not far from the shoreline Sunday in Sebastian. The man was identified as 18-year-old Elias J. Ramos, of Edgewater, Volusia County. "It appears the man drowned, but that has not been officially confirmed," said Capt. Joe Abollo, a spokesperson for the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. "It's unfortunate. This is a tragic incident." Abollo said Ramos appeared to have been dead for a few days. Deputies were investigating the finding as a suspicious death. An autopsy, scheduled for this week, will determine Ramos' exact cause of death. ...

SLC bomb squad detonates suspicious bag left in Speedway parking lot in Sebastian

SEBASTIAN — Bomb squad technicians detonated a 'suspicious' bag left behind in the parking lot of a Speedway gas station on Thursday afternoon, police said. Details were limited on the incident. A Speedway employee spotted the black backpack about 3:38 pm. at the parking lot of the gas station, 700 U.S. 1, Sebastian, just northwest of Riverview Park, said Sebastian police Deputy Chief Tim Wood. The St. Lucie County Bomb Squad detonated the bag about 7:30 p.m., Wood said. Details about the contents inside the bag were not immediately available. Police briefly closed roads in the immediate area. The investigation into the suspicious bag remains ongoing. No further details were immediately available.
