Thomas Richard Hamilton, 55, Vero Beach

Thomas Richard Hamilton, 55, of Vero Beach, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. Mr. Hamilton was born Jan. 21, 1954, in Ottumwa, Iowa, and moved to Vero Beach three years ago from Fort Pierce.

He worked as a handyman. He was of the Lutheran faith. Survivors include his brother, Brian Hamilton, of Merritt Island, Fla.; sister, Layne Hamilton, of Fort Myers; and nephew Clayton Hamilton, of Merritt Island.

Services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, Inc., 4500 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
