Jacoba Luscombe, 93, Vero Beach

Jacoba Luscombe, 93, died Aug. 15, 2009, at Clare Bridge Cottage. She was born in Rensselaer, Ind., and lived in Florida for 40 years, coming from Chicago Heights, Ill., and Demotte, Ind.

Before retiring, she was a real estate agent for many years in Vero Beach and South Florida. She was a member of the First Church of God, Vero Beach. Survivors include her son, Allen Grube, of Demotte; stepson, Clarke Luscombe, of Vero Beach; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, W.C. “Murray” Luscombe; and daughter, Julia Ann Grube.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God, 1105 58 Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32966.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. Fellsmere among towns impacted by Hurricane Irma to get infrastructure award

Fellsmere is among several Florida towns that will receive an infrastructure award that will go toward restoration and improvement projects following the damage left behind by the 2017 Hurricane Irma, state officials said Friday. 11-year-old breaks into church, steals laptop on Christmas Day

GIFFORD — An 11-year-old who deputies said broke into a church and stole a laptop on Christmas Day, was detained. Deputies also arrested the boy's mother after saying she failed to report the boy as missing. The Gifford youth told deputies he stole the $700 laptop because "he wanted something to play with," reports show. Deputies said the juvenile was a runaway. An arrest report noted the incident took place at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, located just south of St. Peter's Academy. Both facilities have the same address at 4250 38th Avenue, Gifford.
