Fellsmere Youth Rodeo planned for today – weather permitting

FELLSMERE — Faced with torrential down pours a couple weeks ago, the Fellsmere Youth Rodeo was rescheduled for this evening – of course, weather permitting. The Youth Rodeo is now set for 5 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Fellsmere Riding Club Arena north of County Road 512 on Willow Street.

The kids were decked out and the livestock trailered in for the Fellsmere Youth Rodeo the last time organizers planned the rodeo, but Mother nature did not shine on the event. It started raining at around 4 p.m. and by 6:30 Korky Korker’s rain gauge measured just more than 2.75 inches. He had heard the trailers rolling in earlier in the day, so when he heard them rolling back out down Willow Street behind his house and on County Road 512, he knew the rodeo was a wash.

Christy Lathero was signed up to work the kitchen that night, but luckily organizers had prepared and losses were minimized.

“We knew what the weather might be, so we didn’t take much out,” she said. “It poured, so what were we going to do? It’s a shame because the kids were all ready to go out.”
