VERO BEACH — Ever had the felling that everyone goes “Quack” and you go “Honk?” In rehearsal right now at Riverside Children’s Theatre is an updated version of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story, “The Ugly Duckling.” “Honk” is the show that in 2000 beat “The Lion King” out of the Olivier Award, the British equivalent to the Tony Award. Directed by Kevin Quillinan with music direction by Deborah Quillinan, the show will be presented on the Waxlax Stage of Riverside Theatre, 3280 Riverside Park Drive.
Performances are July 10, 11 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and July 11, 12 and 18 at 1:30 p.m.
For family audiences of all ages, the musical is set in the English countryside and features Ugly, a duckling who discovers his inner beauty when he becomes a swan, his tearful mother Ida, a drake who “ducks” his fatherly responsibilities, a gaggle of comical geese, a sly French tomcat, a wisecracking bullfrog and other barnyard creatures, together with a great many “fowl” puns.
Tickets for “Honk, Jr.” are $8 and may be reserved by calling the box office at (772) 231-6990 or (800) 445-6745. They may also be purchased by visiting www.riversidetheatre.com.
