Paul Nathaniel Arledge, 91, Vero Beach

Paul Nathaniel Arledge, 91, of Vero Beach, died Sept. 29, 2018, at The Brennity at Vero Beach. Paul was born in Columbia, S.C., and has lived in Vero Beach for three years coming from St. Augustine, Fla.

He attended the University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C.

Paul was a veteran of both the United States Navy, having served during World War II, and the United States Air Force where he served in both the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War.

He retired from the United States Air Force as Master Sgt. after 20 years of service to his country.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marilyn June Arledge, of Vero Beach; sons, Melvin Paul Arledge, of Kenansville, Fla., Terrance Donahue Aldredge (Gale Ann), of Florahome, Fla., and Ryan Bruce Ellsworth Arledge (Nancy), of Ft. Pierce; daughters, Paula Jean Bailes (Emory J. II), of Vero Beach, and Patti Lynn O’Connell (Michael), of St. Augustine; 14 grandchildren, Rodrick, Crystal, Jacob, Wayne, Jessie, Emroy J. III, Justin, Kyle, Tasha, Daniel, Tyler, Jared, Brittany, Dustin and great-grandchildren Tadum, Riley, Logan, Farrah, Camerion, Brantley, Paul N. II, Georgia, Emma, Makenna, Kylie, Brody, Alexcia, Emily, Emory J. IV.

Paul was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Proscia, and great-grandson, Wyatt.

Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Council of IRC, Inc., PO Box 1354, Vero Beach, Florida 32961 in memory of Paul Nathaniel Arledge.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. A funeral service will be held 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Strunk Funeral Home with Rev. Kent Hawkins, Cornerstone Christian Church, Vero Beach officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force Honor guard. Interment will be private in the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Titusville, Fla.

 

Robert B. Dingman, 81, Sebastian

Robert B. “Bob” Dingman, 81, of Sebastian, passed away peacefully at VNA Hospice House Vero Beach on Sept. 27, 2018. Bob was born Nov. 2, 1936, in Saginaw, Mich., to his parents, Rose and Vernon Dingman Jr.

Bob worked for Allied Van Lines Moving Company for many years along with construction throughout his life.  Bob was a member and past president of the Alpena Cycle Club in Alpena Michigan.

Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Flying Squirrel Club for many years in Alpena.

Ford vehicles were a passion of his.

Bob is survived by his wife, Joanne, of 36 years; daughter, Bobi Sue Kaszubowski (the late Bob), of Alpena, Mich.; son, Robert Dingman Jr (Sue), of Alpena; step-sons, Rick Rousseau (Josie), of Traverse City, Mich., Ronald Rousseau (Julie), of Lyman, S.C.; step-daughter, Jennifer Sullivan (Ron), of Sebastian; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Dingman, of St. Charles, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Vernon Dingman Jr.; brother, Vernon Dingman III; and beloved golden retriever, Fred.

By family request there will be no service. A memorial service is planned for spring in Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, donations to VNA Hospice would be appreciated.

Bob will be dearly missed.

 

Thomas D. Grau, 76, Sebastian

Thomas D. Grau, 76, of Sebastian, passed away Sept. 27, 2018, at Indian River Hospital, Vero Beach. Tom was born March 14, 1942, in LeMars, Iowa, the son of Russell & Marjorie (nee Rembe) Grau. He was raised in Sioux City, Iowa, and graduated from East High School.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in Ames. Tom became a Mechanical Engineer.

Tom was united in marriage to Linda Inlay in 1961 and she died in 1975. He was united in marriage to Theo (Susie) Tompkins in 1978 in South Sioux City, Neb.

Tom was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and served as President, Head Elder, Head Trustee and had a singing ministry that blessed so many.

Before retiring he worked for Coors Brewery in Colorado & for 39 years he worked for McCracken/Int’lPipe Machinery Corp/Besser Int’l in Sioux City, Iowa, and San Antonio, Texas. Between these companies Tom invented seven patents for them. He also was an Eagle Scout.

Tom will be remembered for his wonderful voice, his love for singing, doing stain glass, woodworking, camping, big hugs and kisses, and loving his family and friends.

Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susie; sons, Douglas Grau, of Vero Beach, Eric (Georgi) Grau, of Sioux City, Matthew (Laurie) Grau, of Stillwater, Minn., David Tompkins (Jill), of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and daughter, Rachelle Tompkins-Campbell (Vick), of Vero Beach; mother-in-law, Betty Meisner of Vero Beach; sister, Connie Eriksen, of Sioux City; and brother, Scott Grau, of Lincoln, Neb.; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends and neighbors.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and Wilferd Meisner, his father-in-law.

Services will be held at Saturday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 900 27th Ave., Vero Beach, with the Rev. Christopher Colman officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Stroke of Hope Club, 6171 Island Harbor Road, Sebastian, 32958, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, or a charity of your choice in remembrance of Tom.

 

Ronald Everett Hill, 91, Vero Beach

Ronald Everett Hill, 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on Sept. 28, 2018. Ron was born and raised in Bolivar, N.Y.

He served in the US Army as part of Germany’s reconstruction, after WWII. He graduated with a degree in Business and married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Walters in 1949.

After moving his young family in 1958 to south Florida he became a State Farm agent, retiring 30 years later to Okeechobee, Fla.

He will be remembered for his boundless energy and zest for life.

In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by his sister, Coralie; his children, James, Diane, Katherine and Jennifer; as well as six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar, at a later date.
