Team Source is the new ‘Chili King’

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Source’s Dining with Dignity program took home the chili crown at the Cocoa Village’s 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off on Nov. 17. Team Source lead by Chef Joe Wiser was awarded the Judge’s choice and placed second for the People’s Choice award.

“This win is a victory for our Dining with Dignity program,” Chef Joe stated. “Our culinary apprentices work hard every day to master their craft. I can’t express how proud and happy I am for them to not only bring home the Judge’s Choice but to place second for the People’s Choice!”

The chili cook-off win for Team Source is a continuation of the momentum that The Source has been gaining under the new leadership of executive director, Tony Zorbaugh.

“As an organization, we are looking toward the future,” Tony Zorbaugh said. “We believe in making a difference in the lives of individuals by not only providing basic need provision, but also by equipping individuals with the tools they need to make transformative change in their lives. Our Dining with Dignity program does just that by identifying individuals’ skill deficiencies, employment needs, and affording them the opportunity to learn a trade that is in-demand in our local job market.”

The Source’s Dining with Dignity program is the first step toward a career in the culinary and hospitality industry in addition to earning state and nationally recognized credentials. The 12-week comprehensive program incorporates industry standard culinary training with financial literacy, employment preparation, and career exploration based on the individual needs of the person.

Additionally, The Source partners with local restaurants to provide supplemental training and/or employment. On-the-job training opportunities give participants valuable advanced exposure and experience in the culinary and hospitality industry.

“Indeed, the apprentices in the Dining with Dignity program have worked hard to become skilled cooks who are equipped to work in the fast-paced culinary industry. Chef Joe teaches them the ropes in the kitchen and I connect them with local employers who are in need of qualified culinary or entry level staff,” said Rob Morrison, Employment and Dining with Dignity Case Manager.
