Man killed after pickup crashes in canal

Fatal crash

VERO BEACH — A 52-year-old man died after a multi-vehicle crash that caused his vehicle to careen into a canal, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Raymond Charles Anderson, of Port St. Lucie, was driving a pest control pickup truck about 4:25 p.m. Thursday at the time of the crash, involving the pickup and a minivan. He lost consciousness at the traffic light on 43rd Avenue and 5th Street Southwest, drove into the northbound lane and sideswiped a minivan.

Troopers said Anderson then drove off the roadway, across the grass shoulder and into a canal filled with water. After he was pulled from the canal by emergency workers, Anderson was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, where he was pronounced dead.

The minivan driver, Courtney Marie Williams, 42, and her passengers, Reese Williams, 11, and Reed Williams, 10, all had minor injuries and are from Fort Pierce.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
