Gas leak reported at 3 Aves plaza in Vero Beach, no injuries

VERO BEACH — Construction crews working at the 3 Aves shopping center in Vero Beach at Indian River Boulevard and Miracle Mile ruptured a gas line while using a back hoe, according to Indian River County Fire Rescue. No injuries were reported.

Fire Rescue arrived on scene to keep people from standing around near the leak and becoming exposed to the gas.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Burkeen said the gas company had been notified and was working to locate the valve on the line to shut off the gas.

He said officials did not evacuate businesses or otherwise keep businesses from their normal operations.

The line rupture occurred around 4:20 p.m. and Fire Rescue expected to be cleared of the scene around 5:30 p.m.

“There is no danger to the public,” Burkeen said, explaining that a steady breeze was helping to disburse the gas.
