Opera on the River to benefit Vero Beach Theatre Guild

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Theatre Guild will be the beneficiary for Kurt Wallach’s annual “Opera on the River” event this year, which will take place at his private residence, Palacio Del Rio beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 8.

A local philanthropist, Wallach loves to share his passion for the arts, and in particular the opera, by annually bringing in some of the top opera stars from the New York City opera.  Wallach has become a fan of the Vero Beach Theatre Guild, and its high caliber of talent and production quality.  He’s proud to honor Vero Beach’s only non-profit historic community theatre by generously offering the proceeds of this prestigious event to the guild.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
