Alice D. Harber, 82, Sebastian

Alice D. Harber, 82, died Dec. 31, 2010 at her residence in Sebastian.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and lived in Sebastian for 25 years, coming from Fort Lauderdale.

She graduated in 1950 from Barry College, Miami with a bachelor’s degree as a dietician in the healthcare industry.

She was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian, a charter member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Ft. Lauderdale and was very involved in many church and school activities.

She was also very involved in school activities at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale and was active with the Girl Scouts, Friends of the St. Sebastian River, the Pelican Island Audubon Society, the Pelican Island Preservation Society, and was instrumental in opening the first cold night shelter in North County.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Steve; sons, Chris (Ann) Harber, of Palm Bay, Greg Harber, of Birmingham, Ala.; daughters, Lucy Harber (John Tullo), of Chapel Hill, N.C., Mary (Larry III) Loschiavo, of Palm Bay, Terese Harber, of Sebastian; brothers, Tommy (Sandy) Depenbrock, of Sarasota, David (Nina) Depenbrock, of Waxhaw, N.C.; grandchildren, Lacey, Stephen, Larry J. and Lara; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, 335 East 145th Street, Bronx, NY 10451 in memory of Alice Harber.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2011, at Strunk Funeral Home Sebastian.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Jan. 5, 2011, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Father John Morrissey, celebrant.

Burial will follow at Sebastian Cemetery, Sebastian.
