Joseph Presley Drake Jr., 85, Vero Beach

Joseph Presley Drake Jr., 85, died Oct. 28, 2010, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md.

He was born in Greensboro, Ala., and lived in Vero Beach and Salisbury, Md. He was an engineer technician at the U.S. Naval Academy and later owned and operated the Arts and Crafts Shoppe in Salisbury with his wife for 15 years.

He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Cabot.

He was a longtime member and deacon of the Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Jane Drake Swann, of Dobson, N.C.; brother, Robert Drake, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; fiancee, Linda Hurlock; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Bailey Drake; brother, Donald Drake; and sister, Elizabeth Biscoe.

Memorial contributions can be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1514 Old Ocean City Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 2 at Immanuel Baptist Church with visitation one hour before the service and from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury.

Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron, Md., with the Rev. Woodrow Crouse officiating.
