Lawrence Joseph Brown, 51, Vero Beach

Lawrence Joseph Brown, 51, died Sept. 24, 2010. He was born in Ft. Pierce and lived in Indian River County for 18 years, coming from St. Lucie County. He served in the Army.

He worked for Indian River County. He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Sara Ruth Brown, of Vero Beach; four stepchildren; one grandchild; and five step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.

GIFFORD — The spirit of solidarity flourished at the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade along 45th Street, where residents gathered to see creative floats, marching band performances and banners showing King's image along with some of his famous quotes. 2 wounded in late Monday shooting; deputies investigating

GIFFORD — Two people suffered non-life threatening injuries following a double shooting late Monday, Indian River County sheriff's deputies reported. It was the second reported shooting to take place in Indian River County over the Labor Day weekend. Both incidents are not connected, sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Jaworski said. Details on the motive in Monday's shooting were not immediately available. Man killed in overnight shooting in Gifford

GIFFORD — A man in his early 20s was killed after being struck by gunfire overnight, authorities said. Indian River County sheriff's officials said there was no known danger to the public but are investigating the case as a homicide. "Currently, detectives are working all leads," sheriff's officials said in a statement. "There is no suspect information that can be presently shared."
