Sebastian River High receives $6,750 in athletic donations

SEBASTIAN — Sebastian River High School has received nearly $7,000 in donations for athletic purposes.

The high school will finalize acceptance to two donations tonight at the Indian River County School Board meeting. The funds have already been deposited into the school’s athletic internal account. The Scholastic Sports Company has donated $5,000 to be used for athletic transportation, senior sports banquet, athletic awards, and random drug testing materials, according to Sebastian River High School Principal Daniel Gilbertson.

Dr. Johnny Benjamin has also made a donation to the school’s athletic department. That donation of $1,750 will be used to buy new football helmets for the Sharks.

The football team, along with the teams from Vero Beach and St. Ed’s will kick off their new season this Friday. All three teams are playing at their respective homes.

The Indian River County School Board is expected to approve the two donations under its consent agenda this evening. No discussion is anticipated.
