VERO BEACH — Lymphedema Therapy, a comprehensive treatment program for the care of lymphedema is now being offered at Sunshine Physical Therapy Clinic by Michelle Dorfman, MSOTR/L CLT. The four treatment components include Manual Lymph Drainage, Decongestive Exercises, Compression Garments and Meticulous Skin Care.
Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of lymph fluid between the skin and muscles of the body after the lymphatic system has been damaged. This accumulation of lymph fluid in the affected area causes swelling. If you have had a mastectomy, lumpectomy, radiation treatment, lymph node removal, other surgeries or infections to the limbs, you may be at risk for developing lymphedema. You could be a candidate for treatment of lymphedema if you have a dull ache in the affected limb, a feeling of tightness in the skin, difficulty moving a limb or bending at the jointyou’re your shoes rings or watches suddenly feel too tight.
