Minnie Lee Footman, 82, Vero Beach

Minnie Lee Footman, 82, died April 23, 2010, at the Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce.

She was born in Orclarky, Ga., and lived in Vero Beach for 59 years, coming from her birthplace. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her sons, Willie James Footman Jr., Leroy Footman, Bennie Ray Footman, Jerry Footman and Nicholas Footman, all of Vero Beach; daughters, Shirley Williams and Betty Footman, both of Vero Beach, and Priscilla Germany of Georgia; sister, Mary Jackson of Orlando; brother, Willie Wilson of August, Ga.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. May 1 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach, with Rev. Demetris Webb officiating.

Family, friends, marines honor ‘protector, hometown hero’

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Frank Strahorn was already considered a hero by his family, friends and marine brothers and sisters because of his military service around the world. Then, on June 19, the 34-year-old became a "hometown hero" after he was fatally shot while helping others escape a gunman carrying an AK-47 assault rifle at a Sebastian pizzeria.
