Francis E. Pettis, 83, Vero Beach

Francis E. Pettis, 83, died March 24, 2010, at his home. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 28 years, coming from his birthplace. He was a retired teacher and a veteran of World War II, serving in the Marines. He received his master’s degree in education from Buffalo State University. He was a member of the EAA and avid flier and flight instructor in Vero Beach. He was a member of the Lakewood Park United Methodist Church, Lakewood Park. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Penny Pettis of Vero Beach; daughter, Marcia Ryf of Atlanta; and one grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. March 29 at Lakewood Park United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
