Jeff Luther has been named as a director on the board of the North Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross. Luther began his career in law enforcement in 1973 with Vero Beach Police Department as a dispatcher. He went through the Law Enforcement Academy two years later to become a deputy with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
He worked numerous years in road patrol before being assigned to the Ag/Marine/K9 Unit and became Sergeant of the unit. He continued his educational certifications with SWAT, K9 Unit Management, numerous Marine and Investigators courses, in addition to becoming a Florida Agricultural Crimes Intelligence member. Jeff holds a private pilots license and has the FDLE Observer certification. Since 1980, Jeff has been certified with the Florida Game & Fish as a Hunter Education Instructor. He has taught thousands of children and adults to handle firearms properly.
Numerous security courses assisted him in providing high level security for notables such as for Lt. Col. Oliver North and Prince Charles. He’s been an active participant in the Presidential Task Force (Operation Blue Lightening Strike Force designee) and has a productive long term working relationship with Customs and other state and federal agencies.
Jeff then left for a few years to run a large scale citrus business but his heart was in law enforcement so he rejoined the agency in 2002. During those years he maintained a Reserved Deputy status by continuing to volunteer in the Special Operations Unit.
His appointment to the position as Public Information Officer (PIO) by the former Sheriff’s Administration sent him on a quest that earned him the title of Master Public Information Officer. He is also the PIO for the Indian River County Emergency Operation Center. Being the spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office has given Jeff the opportunity to open communications with various local and government agencies. He is on numerous boards such as Juvenile Justice Council, United Way Marketing and the Community Traffic Safety Team.
He has continued his educational profile with annual National Hurricane Conferences, National Incident Management System certifications, Professional Development and keeps up to date on Homeland Security.
