Clyde Morgan, 91, Vero Beach

Clyde Morgan, 91, of Vero Beach, died Thursday Oct. 15, 2009 at home.

He was born on Aug. 27, 1918 in Americus, Ga., and has been a longtime resident of Indian River County.

He was a retired painter at Piper Aircraft and was a member of Mount Zion AME Church, Gifford, where he served on the Stewards’ Board, Finance Committee, and as a Trustee.

He was a member of the NAACP, Gifford Cemetery Club, Independent Afro American Relief Union, and a former member of Progressive Civic League.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Morgan, of Vero Beach; sons, Clyde Morgan, Jr., of Tallahassee, Richard Morgan, of Gifford, James Morgan, of Tallahassee, Dean Mosely, of Orlando; daughters, Barbara Standifer, of Gifford, Calinthia Simmons, of Pontiac, Mich.,Gloria Johnson, of Fort Pierce, Vera Byrd, of West Palm Beach, Jocelyn Darrisaw, of Gifford, Joyce Sharper, of New York City; thirty-one grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Toby Ware, daughters, Yvette McDougald, Barbara Campbell, Janet Mosely; parents, Milton and Aida Price Morgan, brothers, Oliver, George, Theodus, Fletcher, Carranza and Fred Morgan.Visitation will be held 4 to 6 and a wake service will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday October 21, 2009 at Mount Zion AME Church, Gifford. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday Oct. 22, 2009 at Mount Zion AME Church, Gifford. Burial will follow at Gifford Cemetery.
