Omer J. Laporte, 86, of Vero Beach, died July 27, 2009, at Indian River Medical Center. He was born in Ontario, Canada, and lived in Vero Beach for the past 36 years, coming from his birthplace.
Before retirement, he worked for Piper Aircraft for 34 years in Vero Beach. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach. Survivors include his wife, Edna Laporte; son, Michael Laporte, of Vero Beach; daughters, Annette Sheilds, Virginia Gallo, Lorraine Laporte, and Lucille Weems, all of Vero Beach; son, Gerald Laporte, of Columbus, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice House, 901 37th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. July 30 at Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, with a vigil at 5:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be noon July 31 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce.
