October 10th, 2022-Vero Beach, Florida —Join the Environmental Learning Center for Eco-Action Society on Thursday, October 20th from 6-8 PM and learn about stormwater and where it goes with Alexis Peralta, Indian River County’s Stormwater Educator, and Fertilizer Enforcement Officer. Following the presentation, the documentary A Water’s Journey – The Hidden Rivers of Florida will be shown. This film follows Florida’s water as it moves underground. There is a follow-up field trip offered to Egret Marsh Storm Water Park: Friday, October 21st open only to those who attend the Thursday meeting with 20 spots available.
The November 17th Eco-Action Society Meeting will focus on native plants and why they are so important for the environment. ELC staff member, Marc Spiess is the presenter and will share information about the Florida Ecological Greenway network. Attendees will learn about connecting Florida with native plants and how the Florida wildlife corridor is necessary for animal movement throughout the state.
The goal of the Eco-Action Society is to commit to learning about the environmental issues facing our planet and make an honest effort to model early friendly behavior in your sphere of influence. Meetings are FREE and held on the third Thursday of the month September-May with the exception of December. The Environmental Learning Center is a 64-acre island nature park surrounded by the Indian River Lagoon. The ELC is open seven days a week and located at the western foot of the Wabasso Bridge on County Road 510 in Indian River County. The nonprofit nature center is a destination for water activities, walking trails and wellness programs. With a mission to educate, inspire and empower all people to be active stewards of the environment and their own well-being, the ELC is committed to sharing the importance of protecting and restoring our natural resources.
