DESCRIPTION:The Inaugural Rotary Kids Triathlon Vero Beach\, proudly presented by the Rotary Club of Vero Beach\, will be held at the Victor Hart Sr. Community Enhancement Complex in Vero Beach. This race will allow youngsters ages 6 – 13 to participate in a Swim\, Bike\, and Run multisport youth event that is geared for both 1st Time Triathletes and the seasoned competitive Triathlete.\nAll participants will receive an anklet and running bib with electronic timing chips (so their split and total times can be accurately reported). In addition\, each participant and their parent/guardian will receive a coded ID band for secure child pick-up in the Kid Corral (see Registration & Child Pick-Up Map)\, where the children will converge after crossing the Finish Line. \nThis race will also include a RELAY TEAM category in both the Junior and Senior Division. Under the race direction of DRC Sports\, this event will be Safe\, Fun\, and Professional for all athletes using USA Triathlon rules and guidelines. This race is NOT a USAT Sanctioned event. Race Central and the swim will be located at the Gifford Aquatic Center.\nEarly Bird Entry Fee until November 5th is ONLY $15\nRegistration Entry Fee November 6th – 29th is $25\nYour entry fee includes a Custom Event Shirt\, Spectacular Finisher Awards\, a Swagbag full of goodies\, plenty of food & drinks\, Music\, and Activities for the whole family and just maybe a really cool award if you finish in the TOP 3 of your age group or special category.\nPlease note that the entry fee has been artificially reduced to encourage participation by all children. Kendra Cope Bergman\, Executive Director\, Coastal Connections\, will review “Blue Mind: The Surprising Science That Shows How Being Near\, In\, On\, or Under Water Can Make You Happier\, Healthier\, More Connected\, and Better at What You Do\,” by Wallace J. Nichols. \nCombining cutting-edge neuroscience with compelling personal stories from top athletes\, leading scientists\, military veterans\, and gifted artists\, in “Blue Mind\,” author Wallace Nichols shows how proximity to water can improve performance\, increase calm\, diminish anxiety\, and increase professional success. “Nichols draws on science and art\, hard data and anecdote\, and plenty of experience\, to explain our blue mind in detail. Not just what it is\, but how we can enter into this state and — perhaps most important — why we should do so\,” said a Washington Post review of “Blue Mind.” \nAs Founder and Executive Director of Coastal Connections\, Kendra Cope Bergman puts a local perspective on Nichols’ research. Coastal Connections’ mission is to protect coastal habitats for sea turtle survival by educating and connecting people to the environment. \nThe Book Review Breakfast is free and open to the public\, although donations of new or gently used children’s books are encouraged. DESCRIPTION:“Waldo’s Secret Art Walk” is a tribute to Waldo Sexton whose family and homestead is hosting this special art event this month on December 16th and 17th. Although you can experience Waldo’s found art throughout all of his local landmarks like the Ocean Grill and the Driftwood Inn\, the artist’s home is a treasure trove of his eclectic style. Waldo Sexton would have loved this art show on his homestead with artists lining pathways and tucked under shaded patios. Every turn in the path through the lush jungle garden reveals a new surprise placed with purpose by the artist. Spanish tile\, ornate iron gates\, a lantern\, a bell or a bronze statue calls out to the artist in all of us.
