He sponsored or co-authored most of the natural resource protection provisions in the Florida Constitution\, including: Amendment 1\, the largest voter approved conservation funding initiative in our nation’s history\, and creation of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. He led development of nationally recognized land conservation programs\, including: Volusia Forever (1986 and 2000)\, Florida Communities Trust (1990)\, Preservation 2000 (1991) and Florida Forever (1999). He has negotiated over 300\,000 acres of lands now part of national and state parks\, forests\, and wildlife refuges. He negotiated key elements of the Everglades Restoration (1996) and authored the large scale planning sections of Florida Community Planning Act (2011). DESCRIPTION:Who’s Influencing Our Daughters – and Granddaughters?\nYoung women today are subject to far more – and often more dangerous – influences than past generations experienced. \nDr. Jacqueline Jacobs\, of the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation\, will discuss “The Influence of Culture on Perception of Self in Girls and Young Women” at the regular Lunch Meeting of the Vero Beach branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) at 11:30am on Saturday\, Feb. 18\, at the Richardson Center of Indian River State College\, 6155 College Lane\, Vero Beach. \nDr. Jacobs holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary and special education. She has worked in schools and universities on five continents\, most recently as Special Services Coordinator at the Pan American School in Salvador\, Bahia\, Brazil. She was the first Behavior Specialist in Indian River County\, and has served as principal of elementary schools here\, as Chair of the Education Pillar for United Way of IRC\, and is currently VP-Operations for the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation. \nShe has developed a specialty in the social and emotional development and well-being of girls and young women and has conducted research that she has presented at conferences and/or published on topics such as “social self-perception” and “generative leadership.” \nDr. Jacobs also is a published novelist and recipient of the Royal Palm Literary Award and the American Writers Award. \nThe event is open to the public.
