DESCRIPTION:21st Century “higher education” options have exploded: In addition to the traditional associate and bachelor’s degree programs\, other routes to personal and professional achievement are abundant and growing\, including technical certificates\, applied technology diplomas\, and career training programs in a wide variety of fields. And many programs are designed for the adult learner who is returning to school after raising a family or trying to chart a new professional path. \nTeri Graham and Christi Shields will discuss “Trends in Higher Education” at a speaker luncheon sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) at 11:30am on Saturday\, Feb. 15\, in the Richardson Center of Indian River State College in Vero Beach. Their emphasis will be on issues and resources for women in Indian River County. Tickets are $25; go to AAUWverobeach.org to order. Deadline to reserve your space is Feb. 10. \nDr. Graham is President of both the Vero Beach and Stuart campuses of IRSC\, where she works to strengthen and grow IRSC’s ability to identify and respond quickly to both communities’ educational and workforce needs. In addition\, she actively serves on civic and not-for-profit community boards. In March 2023\, she was named one of Onyx Magazine’s 21 Women on the Move. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU)\, an MBA in Management and Marketing from Rollins College\, and a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Florida. \nChristi Shields is the Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) at Treasure Coast Technical College (TCTC) for the School District of Indian River County. She holds Florida educator certifications in Secondary Social Science\, Educational Leadership\, and School Principalship. Christi earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Troy University and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. DESCRIPTION:VERO BEACH – Indian River Clay’s “Your\, Mine & Ours” 2-day exhibit and sale is set for March 28-29 at Raw Space Gallery. The exhibit will feature over 100 pieces of pottery\, paintings and other forms of artwork from more than 35 collaborating artists. \nIndian River Clay members have teamed up with each other\, friends and family members to create artwork for this exhibit. One artist in the collaboration had to be a potter\, while the other could work in any chosen media. Each artist has submitted their own piece and one piece representing their collaboration\, for a total of three pieces of artwork for sale to the public. \nMark your calendar for 5 to 8 p.m. Friday\, March 28 for opening festivities at Raw Space Gallery\, 1795 Old Dixie Highway\, which is a large\, indoor gallery near downtown Vero Beach. The exhibit continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday\, March 29. Refreshments will be available. \nIndian River Clay is a non-profit ceramic arts studio in Vero Beach founded in 2018. It has grown to 65 working potters and a similar-sized waiting list.
