DESCRIPTION:Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast will host a Virtual 5K the week of November 9-14th. Girls on the Run is known nationally for the focus on physical\, social\, and emotional health of girls using fun running games and discussions for girls in 3rd-8th grades. \nDuring the 8-week program\, girls participate in lessons that foster confidence\, build peer connections\, and encourage community service while they prepare for an end-of-season celebratory 5K event at their school site. In the spirit of keeping the community involved and moving forward\, Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast will sponsor a Virtual Celebration 5K – Run\, Red\, White\, and Blue. \nParticipation in the 5K can be completed “your way\,” and participants can run\, walk\, or even bike their way to celebrate healthy movement. Registration cost is $15 for adults\, $10 for 12 and under and includes a medal and tote bag. SUMMARY:The Garden Club of IRC 29th Annual Christmas Ornament
DESCRIPTION:The Garden Club of IRC announces the 29th Christmas Ornament in the series which features buildings or landmarks that typify the historical heritage or significance in Indian River County.  The 29th Christmas Ornament features the renaming of the Wabasso bridge. The A.B. Michael Bridge now has the name which was intended by the County Commission in 1964.Through error in Tallahassee\, it was named A.B. Mitchell.  A.B. Michael\, who the bridge was named after\, was a citrus pioneer on Orchid Island instrumental in the citrus industry in Indian River County.  Fifty years later with the help of State Senator Debbie Mayfield\, the bridge finally has the correct name.  The Garden Club is pleased to present the renaming of the Wabasso Bridge to A.B. Michael Bridge by creating our 2020 Christmas Ornament in his honor.  The Ornament was beautifully created by garden club member Arun Wijetilleke with the accompanying history written by Nat Jackson.  Anne Michael\, a garden club member and daughter in law of A.B. Michael also assisted in the history.  Proceeds from the ornament go toward our Civic Projects. The Christmas Ornament can be purchased for $20 at 18 local businesses in the area who so graciously sell the ornament.
