The eight-week tournament will start at 6:00 p.m. with local pros vying to be named King of the Hill.\nNow in its 25th year\, King of the Hill gives tennis fans the opportunity to enjoy high level doubles competition\, while providing local tennis professionals the chance to participate in the festivities and appreciate the spirit of competition.\nAll proceeds support Youth Guidance Mentoring Academy. In fulfilling its mission\, Youth Guidance is dedicated to enriching the lives of Indian RIver County youth through mentoring relationships that inspire trust\, self-esteem and positive futures.

DESCRIPTION:Presented as part of a new lecture series launched by the Sebastian Inlet District\, join us to learn more about FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute’s Harmful Algal Bloom Lab and Taskforce\, and ongoing research on algal blooms from scientist and principal investigator Dr. Malcolm McFarland. \nDr. McFarland’s research is focused on understanding patterns of phytoplankton distribution\, abundance\, and species composition. His work combines laboratory experiments\, microscope-based analyses of water samples\, and the development of new techniques to observe phytoplankton population dynamics with high spatial and temporal resolution. \nHe is particularly interested in harmful algal blooms due to their impacts on human and animal health\, and their apparent global increase associated with climate change. His research is important to understanding the role of phytoplankton in aquatic ecosystems at local and global scales. \nAll sessions will be held in the 2nd Floor classroom at BG’s Surfside Grill & Adventures at Sebastian Inlet State Park (North entrance). Sessions are free with regular park admission fees.

As well as some interactive experiences.\nCody Boettner\, the 2019 World Grand Champion Hoop Dancer is set to perform each day! If you have never seen him perform live\, you are in for a treat. He gives a fast-paced performance and amazes with his hoop creations of a glimpse into his world. And- he will be just returning from the 2020 Championships!\nJohn Bailey\, a Guinness Book World Record holder\, Knife Thrower & Bullwhip Specialist with “Lash and Steel” will be showing his skills! It is amazing the accuracy he has with his 50 knives and 12 tomahawks\, thrown around an assistant from a variety of distances. 12 items are cut from the assistants’ hands in Bullwhip routines!\nGrupo de Danza Azteca ‘Tloke Nahuake’ otherwise known as “the Aztec Dancers” will be wowing us with their beautiful dances\, regalia\, and gorgeous feathered headdresses.\nWe have several flute players who will be playing throughout the day- including “Crazy Flute.” Crazy Flute just won the Native American Music Award for best Instrumental album 2019 for our album “We Belong To The Music!” We are so excited for them to join us this year!\nYou can’t have a powwow without drums. Suzanne Fox leads the next Laura (Riding) Jackson Adult Writers Workshop on Saturday\, February 22\, 2020.\nSuzanne Fox is a published author in poetry\, fiction and nonfiction. A gifted\, passionate\, and inspiring speaker\, she is a partner at publisher and custom anthology creator Stories of You Books and the founder/editor of Society Nineteen\, a digital journal celebrating the 19th century and the gifted contemporary authors that write about it. \nSuzanne received her undergraduate degree in Art History and English with Highest Honors from Douglass College\, receiving a Metropolitan Museum of Art Undergraduate Internship award among others. After finishing college\, she worked for several Wall Street firms and formed her own marketing and technical writing consultancy\, which served clients including PaineWebber\, Citibank\, and other elite firms. \nLeaving the corporate world to pursue one of her first loves\, creative writing\, Suzanne received her MFA degree in Writing from the prestigious Columbia University School of the Arts\, winning a Writing Fellowship\, an Academy of American Poets Prize\, and the Benjamin Burns prize among other awards. DESCRIPTION:Our Savior Lutheran Church in Vero Beach presents the next event in their Fine Arts Series\, the Buck Creek Jazz Band. The community concert will be on February 23rd at 4 p.m. Buck Creek was formed in 1977 and is made up of seven musicians who play in the style of Jelly Roll Morton\, King Oliver and other early New Orleans musicians. Their intention is to apply their instrumentation and techniques to a variety of tunes that span the 20th century. The band has appeared at every major traditional jazz festival in this country\, including the Kool Jazz Festival in Washington\, D.C. and the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee in California. Outside their native country the BCJB has played the Victoria (British Columbia) Jazz Festival and the Edinburgh\, Scotland\, Festival. They have been featured on jazz cruises in the Caribbean\, the Mediterranean\, the Baltic Sea\, Panama Canal\, Alaska appeared and the St. Lawrence Seaway. Buck Creek has played at the Tampa Jazz Festival\, twice at the Clearwater Jazz Festival and Ft. Lauderdale Jazz Festival. In a poll of its readers\, the West Coast Jazz Rag voted Buck Creek the fourth best traditional jazz band in the country. Although the original rhythm section has moved on or gone on to play with the jazz greats in heaven\, the original “front line” remains in-place working together after forty-two years.
