DESCRIPTION:VERO BEACH – Indian River Clay’s “Your\, Mine & Ours” 2-day exhibit and sale is set for March 28-29 at Raw Space Gallery. The exhibit will feature over 100 pieces of pottery\, paintings and other forms of artwork from more than 35 collaborating artists. \nIndian River Clay members have teamed up with each other\, friends and family members to create artwork for this exhibit. One artist in the collaboration had to be a potter\, while the other could work in any chosen media. Each artist has submitted their own piece and one piece representing their collaboration\, for a total of three pieces of artwork for sale to the public. \nMark your calendar for 5 to 8 p.m. Friday\, March 28 for opening festivities at Raw Space Gallery\, 1795 Old Dixie Highway\, which is a large\, indoor gallery near downtown Vero Beach. Families\, community groups\, and organizations are invited to join in this festive tradition by decorating cars\, floats\, and dressing in creative costumes.\nLine-up for the parade begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Women’s Club parking lot (1534 21st Street). The parade will step off at 10:00 a.m.\, traveling east on 21st Street before turning onto 14th Avenue and continuing to the Vero Beach Community Center. Spectators are welcome to view the parade along 14th Avenue between 21st Street and 23rd Street.\nThe fun doesn’t stop with the parade—participants can enter the Costume Contest\, which will be held inside the Community Center immediately following the parade. Prizes will be awarded for Best Decorated Cars\, Best Floats\, and Best Costumes! Children ages 0–17 will also receive free goody bags while supplies last.\nThere are no entry fees\, and applications for parade participation are available online at www.covb.org. Who might you be if nobody told you who you’re supposed to be? \nAt a Book Review Breakfast on Monday\, Dec. 1\, Dana King\, local artist and sculptor\, will review “All Blood Runs Red\,” by Phil Keith and Tom Clavin\, the story of one man who ignored racial assumptions and cultural limits. Sponsored by the local branch of the American Association of University Women\, the Book Review Breakfast begins at 9:30am in the Richardson Center on the campus of Indian River State College in Vero Beach. The event is free and open to the public. \n“All Blood Runs Red” is the inspiring story of Eugene Bullard\, an American hero; it is both a thought-provoking chronicle of the 20th century and a portrait of a man who came from nothing and by his own courage\, determination\, gumption\, intelligence and luck forged a legendary life. The son of a former slave and an indigenous Creek woman\, Bullard fled home at age 11 to escape the racial hostility of his Georgia community. When his journey led him to Europe\, he garnered worldwide fame as a boxer\, and later\, during World War I\, as the first African American fighter pilot in history. \nDana King is a classical figurative sculptor who creates public monuments of Black Bodies in Bronze. She won an Artadia Award in 2021 and was a 2021-22 California Art Council Fellow. She is a former three-term trustee at the Oakland Museum of California. King also traveled the world as a broadcast journalist for 25 years\, garnering five Emmys\, two Edward R. Murrow Awards and two Gracie Awards\, mainly for international reporting. \nThe Book Review Breakfast is free and open to the public\, and people are encouraged to bring new or gently used children’s books to help stock the four Little Free Libraries that AAUW-Vero Beach maintains. AAUW-Vero Beach is a 501(c)3 charitable organization.
