DESCRIPTION:This program is open to students who are ages 14 to 16 as of June 1\, 2021\, who reside in and attend school in Okeechobee County. Parent or guardian must be a legal Florida resident. Parents and students must attend the summer program orientation. \nStudents will receive training and information on leadership and citizenship skills; receive relevant information on gangs\, drugs and financial literacy; receive remediation in basic skills; receive remediation instruction in reading\, writing and math; receive instruction on occupational skills and career exploration; and will be introduced to parenting skills. All academic activities will be competency-based with achievement assessed on a daily basis. A pre- and post-test will be administered for each student. Students will investigate a selection of career training programs through exploration activities.
