Finding Better Ways to Manage Difficult Conversations

March 21 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
$25
LisaLangford

In an era of cultural polarization, how can we manage our social interactions in a positive way? Gain insights at a speaker luncheon sponsored by the AAUW-Vero Beach at 11:30am Saturday, March 21, in the Westminster Presbyterian Church on 58th Avenue in Vero Beach. Cost is $25. Go to AAUWverobeach.org for tickets.

Using an interactive approach, Dr. Lisa Langford will discuss the power of empathy in response to microaggressions, ways to navigate differences and conflict, communication in difficult situations, and the “art of listening.”

In addition, she will offer an “empathy framework” and real-life applications that the audience can use going forward.

Dr. Langford is a Project Manager with the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC. With a remarkable 21-year tenure in the Navy/Naval Reserves, she embodies commitment and dedication to service. Her fervent dedication extends beyond her professional realm, as she actively engages in volunteering and mentoring young adults, nurturing future leaders. She holds a master’s degree from Pfeiffer University and a doctorate from the University of Phoenix.

Difficult conversations aren’t always planned — often they catch us by surprise, with an offhand comment: Do we respond or let it go? Dr. Langford’s discussion will offer ways to manage such situations, as well as how to deal with online and social media posts that raise our hackles.

As a 501(c)3 charitable organization the AAUW-Vero Beach DOES NOT take political positions. Discussions at these events are designed to promote understanding and respect.
