Dr. Roscoe O. Whiddon, 78, Vero Beach

Dr. Roscoe O. Whiddon, 78, died June 4, 2013, at VNA Hospice House. He was born in Thomasville, Ga., and moved to Vero Beach in 1967, coming from Miami.

He served in the Navy for 20 years including the Mediterranean arena and the Cuban missile blockade, retiring as commander in the Medical Corps Navy Reserves.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach, the SAE collegiate fraternity, Phi Chi Medical fraternity, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons.

He graduated from the University of Miami Medical School and established an obstetrician/gynecology practice in Vero Beach from 1967 to 1996.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Patricia Y. Whiddon, of Vero Beach; sons, David Roscoe Whiddon, of Tampa and Brian Patrick Whiddon, of St. Petersburg; daughters, Dana Whiddon McGillicuddy, of Medford, Mass., and Lisa Kaye Whiddon, of Port St. Lucie; sister, Ann Whiddon McGowan, of Tallahassee; brother, Roy Whiddon, of Ontario; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach, 1750 20th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. June 9 at the Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.

A life celebration memorial service will be at 11 a.m. June 10 at the First United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
