VERO BEACH — Thursday morning, the Vero Beach Police Department helped the Department of Homeland Security during an investigation that placed three under arrest, according to a press release from the police department.
Authorities did not release why they were searching for the men or on what charges they have been arrested.
An official with Homeland Security declined to comment on why the subjects were arrested, only saying that the department was conducting an ongoing investigation and that more details could be released Friday.
One subject, according to authorities, fled on foot near the 4700 Block of A1A and is currently on the loose. Authorities are searching for him.
An increased police presence was seen around the Surf Club Hotel including Vero Beach Police, Indian River County Sheriff’s, and unmarked law enforcement vehicles.
The suspect is described as a Jamaican black male, 6 feet 2 inches tall with a thin build. He is clean shaven and was last seen wearing a blue shirt.
At 7:58 a.m. Vero Beach police officers, Department of Homeland Security and other assisting agencies were searching the area of 4700 A1A in search of the suspect, according to police.
Authorities are advising anyone observing this subject or other suspicious activity in the area to contact the Vero Beach Police Department immediately by calling 911. Do not approach the subject or make any attempts to apprehend him.
