VERO BEACH — An Indian River County woman has been arrested for using her baby stroller, containing her two infant children to steal merchandise from the Vero Beach Wal-Mart, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
Megan Irwin, 26, who had been previously arrested for retail theft, was observed by Wal-Mart’s loss prevention officer selecting two Wii controllers, an Otterbox cell phone case, and a Chi flat iron, concealing them in her infants’ stroller, according to authorities.
The value of the merchandise was $228.68, according to the affidavit.
When Irwin exited the store, according to the Sheriff’s Office, she handed off the merchandise to another person in the parking lot who then reentered the store, and headed to the customer service area to present the merchandise for a fraudulent refund.
During the last two times that Irwin was arrested for retail theft she used the same modus operandi, M.O., according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Near the end of the conversation with authorities Irwin stated, “The end result of this conversation is the same because either way I am going to jail!”
