Coming Up: Vero Ballet presents dynamic season finale

Ballet Vero Beach, a professional company, will conclude its fourth season this weekend at the VBHS Performing Arts Center, with a glimpse into the distant past, the recent past – and the future. The program will include “Bournonville Divertissement,” choreographed by August Bournonville; “Pourquoi,” choreographed by Camilo A. Rodriguez; and George Balanchine’s “Valse-Fantaisie” (through the George Balanchine Trust). New York Times reviewer Anna Kisselgoff called the Balanchine piece “a windswept pattern of pure dancing, attuned to the joyfulness of its waltz rhythms.” Born in Russia in 1904, choreographer Balanchine is considered the father of American ballet. He co-founded the New York City Ballet and remained its Artistic Director for more than 35 years. Since its founding in 2013, Ballet Vero Beach has gained a reputation for innovative and dynamic programming. Concerts are at 8 p.m. Friday; and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.

“Kinky Boots,” Cyndi Lauper’s sequin-laden Tony Award-winning Broadway smash hit musical, ends its run this weekend at the Kravis Center in West Palm. With music and lyrics by Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein, “Kinky Boots” is based on the 2005 British film of the same name, which, in turn, was inspired by true events. The musical has high-energy singing and hoofing, and zillions of sequins per “foot,” so to speak. It tells the story of Charlie Price, who inherited a shoe factory from his father and forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola. Together they produce a line of high-heeled boots in order to save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all. Show times: Friday, 8 p.m.; Saturday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m. Tickets start at $27.

The Silver Tones, the Senior Resource Association’s popular chorus, will present their 10th Anniversary Commemorative Concert this Thursday at Vero’s First Presbyterian Church. The 77-voice chorus will perform pieces from previous concerts. The Silver Tones was created to provide a meaningful musical outlet for older adults to use their musical talents to enrich the community’s cultural offerings. The Silver Tones director is Jacob Craig, director of music at Vero’s First Presbyterian Church. Show time is 7 p.m. Donations are welcome.
