INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One lane remains closed on Interstate 95 after multiple crashes overnight.
All but the outside southbound lane have reopened following a semitractor fire. The truck was filled with paper products when it caught fire and was fully engulfed, according to Indian River County Sheriff’s Office at the 156 mile marker.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Alejandro Benitez Ferrer was driving the 2005 semitractor south on I-95 when he noticed flames coming from the engine compartment.
The truck struck the concrete barrier along the outside shoulder and continue to collide with it until the truck came to a final stop.
Ferrer, 53, of Hialeah Gardens, Fla., was uninjured.
Shortly after the semitractor fire, there was another wreck reported to the south at the 154 mile marker involving three vehicles. Details were not immediately available.
The causes for the crash and the fire have not yet been released.
