UPDATE: Sebastian shooting suspect arrested

SEBASTIAN – The prime suspect in the shooting that happened in Sebastian Nov. 30 has been arrested.

Roel Brown, 29, previously of the 900 block of Schumann Drive, is in custody and has been charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon, burglary of an occupied dwelling while armed, and discharging a firearm in public or on residential property, and criminal mischief. Brown was picked up in Killeen Tx., according to Sebastian Police Department Spokesman Cmdr. John Blackledge.

He is believed to have shot the victim and fled the scene with an as-of-yet-unnamed accomplice. The Sebastian Police Department has identified a person of interest but has not revealed that name to the public of the accomplice.

Brown’s current address is Killeen, Texas, which is where authorities believe he and the accomplice might have been headed.

The shooting occurred the evening of Nov.30 in the 1000 block of Persian Lane.

Kevin A. Richards, 31, was identified as the victim. He was transported to an area hospital to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and leg.

Brown has a lengthy arrest history in Indian River County, according to the Sheriff’s Office website ranging from 2006 to 2011.

His last booking report was in October 2011, which lists his release from jail for time served on charges of felony cocaine possession with intent to sell and driving with a suspended license.
