Virginia Goodell Jordan, 87, of Vero Beach, passed away at home on Jan. 3, 2016.
She is survived by her three children, Lynn (Gary) Leino, Mark (Berta) Jordan, and Carolyn Jordan; grandchildren Jimmy (Holly) Jordan, Robin (James) Wetherington, Kimberly, David, Daniel (Abbie), and Jordan Leino; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harold F. Goodell, a great grandson Isaac Jordan Leino, and her husband, Marston, after 52 years of marriage.
Jordan was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Lake City, Fla., the daughter of George S. and Grethel C. Goodell. Her family moved to Jacksonville where she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. Her high school activities included Girls Athletic Assoc, Mariners Girl Scouts, and playing piano in the school orchestra.
Jordan then enrolled at Florida State College for Women (now FSU), earning a bachelor’s degree in physiology in 1949. While at FSU, she was the Treasurer of her Freshman Class, on Sophomore Council, Judiciary, Spirogyra, Mortar Board, and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.
She also lettered in field hockey and volleyball earning her membership in The F Club. She was an active member in the Baptist Student Union where she made life-long friends. Upon graduation she began working at the Florida State Board of Health.
In 1950, she married Marston M. Jordan and in 1964, they moved to Keystone Heights, Fla., where their three children grew up. While in Keystone, Jordan taught science at the high school, attended and played the piano for First Baptist Church and then Trinity Baptist Church.
In 1964, Jordan earned her Masters Degree in Science Education from the University of Florida. In 1967 she joined the faculty of UF in the Department of Medical Technology and retired in 1983. She was awarded the Teacher of the Year in the College of Health Related Profession in 1983.
After retirement, they moved to Vero Beach where Jordan taught adult Sunday school and was active in the Missions Programs at First Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon, Fla., with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and funeral service at 2 p.m. The Internment will be in Wellborn Cemetary, Wellborn, Fla., the following day, Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Samaritan’s Purse.
