INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Flakka, marijuana, and a weapon led to the arrest of two people after the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. team executed a search warrant.
Andrew Bennefield, 27, and Latoya Holmes, 35, were arrested Friday morning in the 100 block of 16th Avenue SW, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.
Detectives located and seized a loaded 9mm handgun, 3.7 grams of flakka, 7.4 grams of marijuana, $1,018 in drug money, and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia.
Bennefield and Holmes both face charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, according to authorities.
Bennefield received the additional charge of possession of a controlled substance. Bennefield is being held currently with no bond. Holmes is being held lieu of $500 bond.
“Flakka continues to be a growing problem on the Treasure Coast,” said Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar. “One of our top priorities for 2016 is to get this dangerous drug off the streets and out of the hands of our youth. This is another case of convicted felons with a loaded gun selling drugs in our community and we will not tolerate it.”
