Lisa Belinda Santana, 59, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on Nov. 25, 2015, at the VNA Hospice House of Indian River County.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Luisin Santana; daughter Briana Smith; son Elias Santana; grandchild Helayna Smith; sisters Ruby Miranda and Lucille Martinez; brother David Santiago; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Santana was born Dec. 22, 1955, in the Manhattan borough of New York, N.Y.
She moved to Vero Beach in 1993. She was an educator, and most recently worked in the ESOL program teaching children of all languages the skills needed to achieve competency in the English language. She was passionate about education and took great pride in fostering the same love of learning in her students. She worked miracles in the classroom and in doing so, made a positive impact in the lives of so many children.
An avid reader, you could often find her nose in a book with a hot cup of coffee by her side. She also loved to write and found great inspiration in the writing of poetry. She was a gentle soul with a kind heart and was always willing to lend her ear to anyone in need. She was also a brilliant woman, and had been known to read the encyclopedia cover to cover in her spare time.
