Robert Freund, 85, of Sebastian, passed away on Oct. 31, 2015.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gizella, and a host of friends who will never forget his charming, kind, and humble demeanor.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert, and stepson Edward Csernelabics.
Freund was born on Nov. 20, 1929 in Bay Shore, N.Y., the only child of Robert C. and Ruth (Gibney) Freund.
He was a direct descendant of Abraham Clark, signer of the Declaration of Independence.
He graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1947 and served in the National Guard from 1947 to 1977. He had a 41 year career at Grumman Aerospace Corporation, where he worked on the Lunar Module program, Project Apollo, and received a Citation of Excellence from company president George M. Skurla.
In his non-working hours, Freund traveled the world with Gizella, his wife of 34 years. Together they took 98 cruises and explored every corner of the world from Russia to the Great Wall of China, the Panama Canal, the Amazon rainforest, Hawaii, Europe, Japan, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.
Memorial services will be at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Sebastian on Friday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. A brief Masonic service will be held prior to the Celebration of Life. Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church Building Fund. Arrangements are in the care of Fountainhead Funeral Home, Palm Bay.
