Eileen and Vern Lahart, 61, of Vero Beach, married 61 years on Oct. 9, both died in the weeks after their anniversary.
They are survived by their four children and spouses: Chris and Irene (Houston), Nancy and Jim Fleming (Lincoln, Mass.), Dan (Houston), and Mike and Todd (Norfolk, Conn.); nine grandchildren: Matt (Caroline), Andrew, Natalye, Eric and Kenny Lahart; Amie, Maggie and Ryan Fleming and Audrey Lahart Johnson; Vern’s brother Dick and his wife Toni, brother-in-law Frank Prout, and many loving nieces and nephews.
They are preceded in death by Vern’s parents Stanley and Margaret (nee Byrne), his brother Joe and wife Betty Lahart, and Eileen’s parents Joe and Marion (nee Schaer) Ryan and her sister Jeanne Prout.
Eileen, born in Brooklyn, raised in Upper Montclair, N.J., and educated at Trinity College in Washington D.C., died on Oct. 16 at the couple’s summer cabin in Manitowish Waters, Wis., after a year-long battle with lung cancer.
Following her funeral, Vern returned to their permanent residence in Vero Beach and died suddenly on Oct. 29. Vern, raised in Chicago and educated at Loyola University and Loyola School of Law, was waked at home in Wisconsin and the funeral celebrated by their son Fr. Dan Lahart, SJ, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Manitowish Waters less than three weeks after his loving wife’s similar services.
The couple resided in Winnetka, Ill., for nearly 20 years before moving to Lucas, Texas when Vern’s work relocated in 1980. When he retired in 1995, they split their time between Wisconsin and Vero Beach.
